How Many cc Does Forehead Filler Need?

How Many cc Does Forehead Filler Need?

Forehead filler cost depends on the cc you need and the area filled, not the per-cc price. Here's the 2-5 mL range, the risks, and what to check on a quote.

If you've been collecting quotes for forehead filler, you've probably noticed they don't line up. One clinic lists a price per cc, another quotes the whole forehead, and a third prices by product. It's hard to tell what you'll actually pay.

Here's the short answer: the total depends far less on the per-cc price than on how many cc your forehead needs and how much of it gets filled. The forehead isn't a small spot like the lips. It's a wide surface that runs from just above your brows up to your hairline, so the amount needed varies a lot from person to person. Two people paying the same per-cc price can end up with totals that are several times apart.

In this article, we'll cover why the per-cc number can mislead you, how to tell a hollow forehead from a wrinkled one, what the real safety concerns are, and the four lines on a quote that decide your final bill.

Why Doesn't the Per-cc Price Tell You the Total?

Because the total is the per-cc price multiplied by the volume your forehead needs, and that volume isn't fixed.

Forehead filler is used to round out a forehead that looks flat or sunken. Just under the skin there's a thin layer of fat and the forehead muscle. Beneath those sits the periosteum*, the membrane covering the bone. Filler is typically spread in a thin, wide layer on or just above that membrane to rebuild a smooth curve.

*Periosteum: a thin, tough membrane that wraps the surface of the bone. Forehead filler usually goes on this layer or the layer just above it.

Smoothing a broad surface naturally takes more product than filling a small area. A 2025 study in a plastic surgery journal, which laid out an injection approach for facial balance in East Asian patients, recommended 2 to 5 mL in total for the forehead. It was a preliminary study of just five patients, so it isn't a standard to hold anyone to. Still, it shows how wide the range is: one forehead may need more than twice as much as another.

That's why a quote that only lists a per-cc price can't tell you your total. What changes the number is how hollow your forehead is and whether you're filling only the area above your brows or carrying the curve all the way to your hairline.

Is Your Forehead Hollow or Wrinkled?

Is Your Forehead Hollow or Wrinkled?

It matters, because the two problems call for different treatments, and the wrong one can inflate your quote.

  • Hollow or flat forehead: The forehead looks flat or dips in the middle, so the curve seems to break when you look at it in profile. This is a volume problem, and filler can be a reasonable fit.

  • Horizontal lines: These form when the forehead muscle folds as you raise your eyebrows. They're expression lines, so treatment often starts with Botox to relax the muscle rather than with filler.

If you try to fill expression lines with filler alone, you'll usually need more product, which pushes the price up, and the lines can still crease every time you move your brows.

What you see

Usual first step

Effect on your quote

Flat forehead or a dip in the middle

Filler to rebuild the curve

More cc as the hollow area grows

Lines that appear when you raise your brows

Botox to relax the muscle

You may not need filler at all

Both hollowness and lines

Botox first, then fill only what's still hollow

The right order can lower the total cc

Hollowness that continues into the temples

Plan the forehead and temples together

A wider area means more cc

Your provider will assess this in person, but knowing which group you're closer to helps you read a quote more critically.

Forehead Filler Side Effects and Risks

Forehead Filler Side Effects and Risks

Mild swelling, redness, or bruising after treatment is common and usually settles within a few days. The bigger concern with the forehead is that it sits over important blood vessels.

A 2022 literature review that collected cases of vision damage after filler injections named the glabella and forehead, along the paths of the supraorbital and supratrochlear arteries, as high-risk areas. Among the 178 cases where the injection site was known, the nose accounted for 36.5%, the glabella for 27.0%, and the forehead for 20.2% (36 cases).

It's worth reading that number carefully. It's the share among cases where something had already gone wrong, not how often forehead filler causes problems. What it tells you is that when complications do happen, the forehead is one of the places they show up.

That's why forehead filler is usually placed in a deeper layer close to the bone, away from the shallower layer where those vessels mainly run, and why many providers use a blunt-tipped cannula instead of a sharp needle. This planning, and the extra time it takes, doesn't appear as its own line on a price list, but it's part of what you're paying for.

Seek care right away if you notice any of these:

  • Skin around the injection site turning pale or white

  • A purple, net-like pattern on the skin

  • Pain that keeps getting worse instead of easing

  • Blurred or dim vision

Don't wait to see whether these improve. Contact the clinic that treated you immediately, because they can signal a blocked blood vessel, and outcomes tend to be better the sooner it's addressed.

Four Things to Check on a Forehead Filler Quote

Four Things to Check on a Forehead Filler Quote

Even when two quotes look similar, these four details decide what you'll really pay.

What to check

When the total tends to creep up

When the total is clearer

Total volume

Only a per-cc price is given

You're given a likely cc range for your forehead

Area treated

The whole forehead is filled at once

Brow area, center, and hairline are assessed separately, and only what's needed is filled

Product

Only a brand name is mentioned

You're told whether it's a dissolvable hyaluronic acid filler or a different material

Staged treatment

Extra cc at a follow-up is billed separately

Top-up costs after the swelling settles are explained up front

The last row is the one people most often miss. The true shape of the forehead only shows once the swelling goes down. Placing a little less on day one, then comparing same-angle photos two to four weeks later before topping up, makes it less likely you'll end up overfilled.

At Beautystone, we don't treat the forehead as one flat panel. We look at the area above the brows, the center, and the hairline side separately to see which part is actually hollow. Filling only what's needed tends to keep the total cc down. If you'd rather avoid filler or prefer a gradual change, we'll also compare a collagen-stimulating injection as an option.

About cost: Your price depends on total cc, the area treated, the product, and whether treatment is staged. Your provider will give you a range after seeing your forehead. Seoul clinic pricing is subject to change, and individual results vary. You can see current offers on our promotions page.

What to Bring to Your Consultation

What to Bring to Your Consultation

Two photos, one from the front and one in profile, make a quote far more accurate.

  • Front and side photos: In profile, the point where your forehead curve breaks marks the edge of the hollow area, and that area is what sets the cc you'll need.

  • A front photo with your brows raised: This helps show whether lines are part of the picture too.

  • Your treatment history: If you've had filler or fat grafting in your forehead before, note roughly when and which product.

Treatment history matters because hyaluronic acid filler can be broken down. Hyaluronidase has been reported as a way to dissolve excess hyaluronic acid filler, so leftover product can sometimes be reduced before a new plan is made. If the earlier filler was a different material, the plan may look quite different.

One Profile Photo Sharpens the Quote

The Bottom Line

  • Your forehead filler total comes down to the volume your forehead needs and the area being filled, not the per-cc price alone.

  • One study recommended 2 to 5 mL for the whole forehead, and needs vary widely between people.

  • Hollowness and expression lines are treated differently, and sorting that out first can keep you from paying for filler you don't need.

  • The forehead sits over important blood vessels, so ask about injection depth and technique alongside price.

Like any procedure, forehead filler comes with trade-offs. Ultimately, the choice depends on your forehead, your goals, and your budget.

If you're comparing quotes that don't add up, a consultation is the best way to find out what fits you. Beautystone is a dermatology clinic in Seoul's Hapjeong area, and you're welcome to send front and side photos so we can give you a realistic range. See current offers at our promotions page.
