A day-by-day guide to changes after RF microneedling, plus makeup, exercise, and sun rules.
When we recommend Secret RF in the consultation room, the most common question we get is, "Can I go to work tomorrow?" To point out one important thing, Secret RF is a treatment where applying natural makeup directly the next day can be a bit challenging. That is why it is so important to plan ahead and picture how you will spend the few days leading up to your schedule.
This helpful guide outlines the recovery process we share at Beautystone Clinic when planning your Secret RF treatment. Since individual responses can vary, please confirm your specific case during your personal consultation with Dr. Wi Young-jin.
Immediately After to the Evening of the Procedure
As the micro-needles have just entered and exited the dermal layer to deliver RF energy, your face may be slightly swollen and a tingling sensation is completely normal. RF microneedling is a procedure where tiny needles gently penetrate the skin to deliver high-frequency radiofrequency energy.
The marks will begin as tiny, pinprick-like dots. Even after a cooling, soothing mask is applied in the treatment room, it is very common to still feel a warm, flushing sensation as you leave.
On the evening of your treatment, keeping these two key steps in mind is essential:
Wash your face briefly with lukewarm water. Please save the rolling motion of foaming cleansers for the next day.
Focus your skincare on soothing and calming. Please postpone any strong active ingredients (such as retinol, AHA, or high-concentration Vitamin C) for a few days.

Days 1 to 2 โ When the Tiny Marks Are Most Noticeable
When you look in the mirror the next day, those tiny dot marks may appear more distinct than they did yesterday. It is not that the marks themselves are darkening, but rather that they stand out relatively more as the swelling goes down. While it varies from person to person, this is typically the stage where covering them with makeup can be a bit tricky.
Swelling usually peaks within the first 24 hours and will gradually subside after that.
Slight pinpoint bleeding spots may form. Please let them heal naturally and avoid picking at them with your fingers.
During this time, instead of putting on heavy base makeup, it is much better for managing the marks to lightly cover your face with a layer of tone-up sunscreen. Because direct UV exposure can lead to hyperpigmentation, please make sure to apply sun protection whenever you go out.

Days 3 to 5 โ When the Marks Darken Slightly and Then Clear Up
During this phase, some individuals may notice the marks turning a slightly darker brown or black dot-like appearance. This is a very natural healing process where micro-crusts* form over the treated areas and then gently flake off on their own. Scratching or peeling them off can leave behind hyperpigmentation, so it is safest to let them heal in their own time.
Micro-crust*: A thin layer that temporarily forms over areas of micro-skin damage. It is a healthy sign of recovery and will flake off naturally.
From this point on, many patients can comfortably return to washing their face with lukewarm water and using a regular gentle cleanser, and light base makeup becomes easy to apply again. However, please continue to avoid deep massages or facial scrubs for another week.

Days 6 to 14 โ When Your Skin Becomes Smooth and the Texture Refines
This is the phase where the micro-crusts have almost entirely flaked off, leaving the skin surface smooth. The wonderful process of new collagen production begins in earnest from this point. The beautiful results of RF microneedling appear gradually over time as collagen replenishes, rather than immediately after the procedure.
You will begin to notice a refined appearance in pores and fine scar textures starting from this phase.
The smooth, refreshed feel of your skin texture will become increasingly noticeable between weeks 2 and 3.
There are almost no restrictions on your daily activities during this period. However, if you plan to be active under strong sunlight for an extended time, we highly recommend protecting your skin with sunscreen and a hat.

One Important Tip When Planning Your Schedule
As we mentioned at the start, Secret RF is not a treatment where you can instantly jump back into a perfect routine "the very next day." Please keep the following in mind when planning your schedule:
If you have a major event, give yourself about 14 days of buffer time. This is especially important for events where you will be photographed, such as weddings or family gatherings.
It is a treatment that yields the best results when cumulative. Generally, 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are highly recommended. While RF microneedling itself is classified as a treatment with minimal downtime, the interval between sessions is a crucial window for collagen recovery, so we advise not rushing the schedule.
Please do not skip daily sun protection during your recovery. This is the single most important habit for preventing hyperpigmentation.
Please note that this guide contains general recovery information. Your skin thickness, level of sensitivity, and ideal treatment schedule should be discussed directly with your medical team for a personalized plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will the marks be very visible when I go to work the day after treatment?
A. It is common for the treatment marks to appear as tiny dots. While they can be softened and concealed to some extent with a tone-up sunscreen and a light concealer, many patients prefer to allow a few days of recovery before an important photo-heavy event. We recommend deciding based on your workplace atmosphere and personal schedule.
Q. Is it hard to see significant results with just one session?
A. Some patients do notice a beautiful improvement in texture after just a single session. However, for deeper skin concerns that require cumulative healing, such as pores or acne scars, it is standard to evaluate the results after 2 to 3 sessions. We allow the skin 4 to 6 weeks between sessions to nurture collagen recovery.
Q. How soon can I exercise after the procedure?
A. Many patients can enjoy light walks starting the very next day, but we recommend postponing workouts that cause heavy sweating for about 3 to 5 days. Since sweat and pore stimulation can interfere with the treated areas, it is safest to schedule intense exercise after the micro-crusts have naturally fallen off.
