"Is imported better than domestic?" The question we hear most often in the consultation room
How to Choose the Right Botox for Me
(Complete Guide to Resistance, Effect, and Duration)

When I do Botox consultations,
I often see many people
falling into the trap of "brand."
You choose a bag by its logo,
haha…
but for Botox, you should choose
the practitioner.
Before spending hundreds of thousands of won
just for a name,
please take just 3 minutes to read this.
What determines Botox results
is not the brand name,
but the "design" of the syringe in my hands.
Q. Even if the brand is different,
aren’t the effects the same?
The same unit is not truly the same.
Even when it says 100U, in some cases it is injected as 120U.
Q. Are domestic products less effective
than imported ones?
A. Not necessarily.
Depending on the use, domestic products can be more effective.
Q. Which brand should I get
for longer-lasting results?
A. Duration depends more on area and dose than on brand,
and it is also greatly affected by individual body type.
Botox—why have
there become so many brands?

Botox was originally a specific product name made by Allergan,
but now it is used as a generic term for all toxin formulations.
Currently, the brands used in Korea
number more than 10, including imported and domestic products.
You may think, "If the ingredient is the same, what could be different?"
but things like the manufacturing strain and protein complex size
vary slightly by brand.
In other words, even if both are labeled the same "50 units,"
if the brands are different,
the actual perceived strength can differ.
Brand features at a glance

So in practice,
what actually changes by brand?
To the question, "Which brand is the best?"
there is actually no single fixed answer.
Because the
right characteristics differ by treatment area.
For precise areas like the forehead or around the eyes,
products with less spread and higher predictability are advantageous,
while for broad muscles like the calves or square jaw,
a product with some spread may actually be more effective.
What matters is that the degree of spread and effect range are influenced more by
the injector’s technique and dosage than by brand.
Director Kim Gaeul’s practical note:
In my experience, compared to those who feel brand differences,
more people feel differences in injection site and dosage.
If you feel the effect is not what it used to be,
rather than blindly increasing the dose, consider first a plan to switch to a product with a different strain.
Duration—
is there really a true brand difference?

Usually, toxin lasts 3 to 6 months,
and statistical differences between brands are minimal.
There are other factors that truly affect duration.
1. Muscle activity level
The more it moves, the faster it wears off.
2. Injection dose
If less is injected, it naturally lasts a shorter time.
3. Individual constitution
There is a large difference depending on metabolic rate.
The claim, "This brand always lasts the longest,"
currently lacks clear clinical evidence.
In the end, rather than brand, management at proper intervals
is the best way to improve treatment satisfaction.
By what criteria
should you choose a brand?

This is the guide I recommend during consultations.
1. First-time treatment patients
With abundant data,
I recommend products that are easy to predict.
2. Those who had minimal effects
Rather than switching brands, reassess dosage and placement.
3. Those who prioritize cost-effectiveness
Proven domestic products are also sufficiently good alternatives.
4. Those worried about resistance
I recommend pure toxin formulations (such as Xeomin).
Ultimately, more important than the brand name is
how the practitioner designs
the dosage and injection points.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. Domestic vs imported—
is there really no difference in effect?
A. In terms of ingredients, they are evaluated at an equivalent level.
Differences in practitioner detail matter more than brand.
Q. If I get it repeatedly,
will resistance develop?
A. It is possible, but in practice it is relatively rare.
It is safe as long as you avoid very short intervals or high-dose treatment.
Q. For a square jaw,
which brand works best?
A. For the jaw, securing a sufficient dose comes first.
More than which brand, accurate dosage design is key.
With Botox, more than the brand name,
how you design it determines the result.
