Both share the same principle, but they belong to different generations of devices

Ulthera is a non-invasive lifting treatment that uses Micro-Focused Ultrasound (MFU)* to deliver thermal energy down to the SMAS layer inside the skin, stimulating the regeneration of collagen and elastin. Big changes are rarely visible immediately after the treatment; instead, the contour settles in as collagen regenerates over a period of 8 to 12 weeks.

Prime is the next generation of this Ulthera device. Although it uses the same micro-focused ultrasound, the visualization system and transducer efficiency have been improved. The time when the contours become sharper as collagen settles in is also typically most visible between 8 and 12 weeks post-treatment.

The duration of the results is also quite similar.
