Beard laser hair removal — after trying it myself, this was different..
Even when Director Kim Ga-eul and I did everything exactly the same,
I got much more permanent hair reduction,
and Director Kim Ga-eul got only about half of my result.
The reason is the difference in hair.
Hello, I’m Wi Young-jin, a Seoul National University specialist.
The weather has gotten warmer lately, and I heard cherry blossoms are blooming in Japan,
so I wonder if they’ve bloomed in Jeju too haha.
Today, we’re back to the topic of hair removal.
If shaving every morning is annoying, or your skin gets scraped and painful after shaving,
there are probably quite a lot of people searching for beard laser hair removal.
After all, 30% of our hospital visitors are male hair-removal clients haha.
But the biggest question!!
‘How many sessions do I need?’, ‘
‘I heard beards are thick, so it hurts more...’
I hear this from friends all the time, so I know it all too..
Actually, I’ve had it done myself, so I know even better.

1. Beard laser hair removal: how does it work?
You may be tired of hearing this so much,
but the principle of laser hair removal is delivering laser energy to dark pigment
to selectively destroy stem cells. There are stem cells at the end of beard follicles.
These stem cells must be damaged by thermal energy.
Men’s beards are thick and deep,
so energy often doesn’t reach well,
and this is the key core of beard laser hair removal.
GenMAX PPL (GentleMax Pro Plus)
has both Alexandrite (755nm)
and Nd:YAG (1064nm) wavelengths equipped.
For thick hair, you should use 1064nm. It’s in the infrared range,
and infrared penetrates deep into the skin. (used in orthopedic treatment)

2. How many sessions are needed to see results? Beard hair-removal sessions and indications
Based on clinical studies,
for beard hair removal, around 6–10 sessions is the basic recommended number on average.
>>>>This is the recommended number to reduce density by 50%!
(*It varies depending on the hair.)
It’s the number of sessions to reduce 100 hairs to 50.
Why do you need this many?
Because only a small number of hairs are targets for the laser.
Anagen · Catagen · Telogen
The laser is effective only on hairs in the anagen phase.
So the procedure is repeated every 2–4 weeks.
Good candidates for beard hair removal
People who frequently get skin trouble after shaving
People who find daily shaving burdensome,
People who get recurrent inflammation from ingrown hairs
On the other hand, if you have skin pigmentation disorders or recently tanned,
you should do 1064nm hair removal..
(*Honestly, ads saying “it’s all gone in 2–3 sessions,”
and cheap hair removal are better not trusted.
From personally performing hair removal on thousands of people,
I’ve felt that the thicker and deeper the follicle (like a beard), the more sessions are needed.)

3. Beard laser hair removal: precautions and honest limitations
To be honest first, beard laser hair removal does not work equally well for everyone.
If your hair color is light (including blond or white beard), it doesn’t work well.
That’s because the less melanin pigment there is, the fewer laser targets there are.
According to guidelines, avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks before and after treatment haha.
It’s important for preventing side effects (hyperpigmentation, burns).
On the treatment day, we apply numbing cream and proceed after 30–40 minutes, so pain is reduced much more than expected.
Still, there is more pain than people expect, so honestly everyone gets surprised haha.
Right after treatment, redness or mild swelling may occur,
but in most cases it subsides within a few hours.
Rarely, temporary pigment changes may occur,
so moisturizing and sun protection after treatment are important.
Among patients visiting from nearby Hapjeong, Hongdae, and Mapo,
quite a few come after getting treated elsewhere with slow results.
Device output settings and parameter adjustment by skin type are key.
The most important thing is whether the doctor makes fine adjustments while monitoring treatment results.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1. Beard laser hair removal—how much does it cost?
A. It’s hard to give a uniform answer because each clinic sets treatment ranges differently, but costs vary by area (mustache, chin, sideburns, etc.) and device. For exact pricing, we check the area during an in-person consultation and guide you. Checking skin condition comes before package plans.
Q2. When can I shave after treatment?
A. Since skin is sensitive for 24–48 hours after treatment, we recommend an electric shaver rather than a razor blade. Shaving aggressively with a blade right after treatment can irritate the skin. After that, normal shaving is fine.
Q3. My office/home is near Hongdae or Hapjeong—can I go straight to work after treatment?
A. In most cases, yes. There may be flushing or mild redness right after treatment, but it usually settles within a few hours. Going out after applying sunscreen is sufficient. Beauty Stone Clinic is open on Sundays, so even people who can’t make time on weekdays can visit comfortably.
For beard laser hair removal, results depend not only on device performance but also on parameter settings tailored to skin type and meticulous aftercare. At Hongdae Beauty Stone Clinic, Specialist Wi Young-jin of Seoul National University personally handles all consultations and procedures. You can conveniently come via nearby Hapjeong Station from Sinchon, Ewha, Mangwon, or anywhere in Mapo, so feel free to contact us.
