1. Why does the jaw become square-shaped?

It's caused by the masseter muscle — the muscle responsible for chewing.

This muscle grows gradually each year from the repeated motion of chewing every day.

It's the same reason older people tend to have thicker calves.

Walking every day makes the calf muscles bigger — same principle.

The jaw works the same way.

The larger the masseter muscle sitting on top of the jawbone,

the more square and wide the face appears.

2. How Botox slims the face

Botox blocks acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that signals muscles to contract.

You've probably worn a cast before, right?

After about 2 weeks, when it comes off, there's a noticeable difference between the two sides.

That's muscle atrophy — the muscle shrinks from lack of use.

Muscles that aren't used naturally shrink over time.

It's the same as losing muscle mass when you stop working out.

When the masseter shrinks → the volume above it decreases → the face looks slimmer.

Even within the masseter, results and side effects vary depending on exactly where the injection is placed.

Injecting too close to the front can spread to the Risorius muscle — which may cause an uneven smile.

A precise injection site, guided by anatomical knowledge, is essential.
