Xeomin Duration: Why Is There a Twofold Difference Between the Square Jaw and the Glabella?

Xeomin Duration: Why Is There a Twofold Difference Between the Square Jaw and the Glabella?

Xeomin Duration: Why Is There a Twofold Difference Between the Square Jaw and the Glabella?

Did you think Xeomin lasts the same four months for everyone? The square jaw area can last six months, while the glabella may relax in just three. Even if you increase the number of units, the duration does not increase proportionally.

Xeomin Duration,

Why Is There a 2x Difference Between the Square Jaw and the Glabella

Let me start with the conclusion.

Xeomin does not all last exactly 4 months;

depending on the area, it lasts from 3 to 6 months.

I’ll explain why in this article.

"남들보다 빨리 풀린 것 같아요" 고민이라면? 유닛을 늘려도 소용없는 이유와 근육 두께별 지속 가이드.

Xeomin, Compared with Other Botulinum Toxins

What Is Different?

Xeomin removes the complexing proteins and

leaves only the pure neurotoxin,

making it a botulinum toxin type A formulation.

Because it contains no accessory proteins, the chance of antibody formation,

meaning the risk of resistance, is known to be lower.

However, the duration itself

is not very different from other toxins.

On average, it lasts about 3.5 to 4.5 months.

The real difference comes down to "where it is injected."

Why Is It the Same Xeomin,

Yet the Duration Differs by Area?

Dr. Wi Young-jin’s Key Insight

Xeomin lasts about 4 months on average,

but thicker-muscle areas such as the square jaw

can last 5 to 6 months.

By contrast, thin areas like the glabella tend to last around 3 months.

Even if you increase the units by area,

the duration does not increase much.

If you searched for Xeomin duration

and came here,

most of you are probably wondering, “Why did mine wear off so quickly?”

That’s likely the situation you’re in.

Some people find their expression lines returning just two months after glabella treatment,

while others enjoy results for nearly half a year after square jaw treatment.

The difference lies in muscle thickness.

When the muscle is thin, the medication has a smaller area to act on,

and the recovery cycle is shorter,

so nerve redistribution happens more quickly.

On the other hand, in thicker muscles such as the square jaw,

the medication is absorbed more slowly,

and it takes longer before the nerves receive signals again.

Based on actual data, the glabella and forehead last 3 to 3.5 months,

while the square jaw lasts 5 to 6 months.

Even within one person, it can happen that “the glabella needs another treatment,

but the square jaw is still fine.”

That’s why this difference appears.

One common misconception here is,

“Wouldn’t it last longer if we used more units?”

In clinical practice, even if you increase it by 1.5 times,

the duration increases by only about 20%.

That’s because the number of receptors is fixed.

Overdosing is not a way to extend duration;

it only raises the risk of side effects,

so you should be cautious.

Dr. Wi Young-jin’s Key Summary

Xeomin duration is determined by "muscle thickness."

The difference is significant: 5 to 6 months for the square jaw, 3 months for the glabella.

It cannot be solved by simply increasing units,

so the retreatment timing should be set

separately for each area.

Xeomin Duration,

See Which Category You Fall Into

Last week, a 33-year-old client came in for consultation about both the square jaw and the glabella.

They said, “Please make both last 6 months,”

but to keep the glabella for 6 months,

you would need to inject too many units.

Then the risk of eyebrow drooping rises sharply.

Rather than accepting side effects,

it is better to follow separate cycles for each area.

Area

Average Duration

People who exercise regularly have a faster metabolism,

so it may wear off 2 to 3 weeks earlier than average.

There is one thing I must emphasize:

you must always confirm that it is genuine.

Xeomin comes in an authentic box made by Merz,

with a hologram label and serial number printed on it.

Counterfeit products or medication stored improperly

can sometimes last less than half as long,

which is why this matters.

Three Things Customers

Really Ask About

Q1. If I keep getting treatment in the same area,

does the effect wear off faster?

Cases where it truly shortens because antibodies develop

are about 1 to 2%.

Most of the time, it’s because the muscle has weakened, so you notice the wearing off

sooner.

However, if you get retreatments too frequently within 3 months,

there is a cumulative risk,

so it is best to follow the recommended interval.

Q2. If I get multiple areas treated at once,

do they all wear off together?

Even if you get them treated on the same day,

each area wears off at a different time.

The glabella may wear off in 3 months,

while the square jaw is still going strong.

So when you come in for glabella treatment,

I often tell you to leave the square jaw alone

for now.

Q3. If I get treated before the effect

starts to fade, will it last longer?

I do not recommend injecting again

before the medication has fully worn off.

That pattern only increases the risk of antibody formation.

According to guidelines, you should leave at least a 3-month interval,

and get retreatment when about 70% of the effect has worn off.

If you take away just one thing today

— it is this: Xeomin duration

should be counted separately for each area.

In the next article,

I’ll cover the “golden time” for Xeomin retreatment.

This has been Dr. Wi Young-jin.
