Pico Toning Cost: Is ₩195,000 the Whole Price?

Pico toning starts at ₩195,000 per session on our price list (VAT excluded). That number alone won't tell you what melasma treatment costs, though, because toning isn't a one-visit treatment. The most common plan is around 10 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart.
So the real question is how many sessions you'll need and how far apart they'll be. In this article, we'll cover how to read the price list, why toning works in small steps, when a quote gets longer, and which color changes mean you should call before your next session.
Quick summary
Your toning cost depends on the per-session price plus how many sessions you have and how far apart.
Session benchmark: most melasma toning studies used around 10 sessions, 1-2 weeks apart.
In two studies that stopped at 6 weekly sessions, melasma scores dropped by only 16.7% and 22%.
Dark, widespread melasma often gets other treatments added, so the quote can include more items.
What Does Pico Toning Cost per Session?
On our price list, toning appears as one item, Helios Pico Toning, starting at ₩195,000 for a single session. Prices are in Korean won, VAT excluded, and current as of September 8, 2026. The "~" after a price marks a starting price, so the final number can change with the setup and conditions.
Price list item | Price (VAT excluded) | Typical concern |
|---|---|---|
Helios Pico Toning | Starting at ₩195,000 | Melasma, pigmentation |
Secret (microneedle RF*) | Starting at ₩240,000 | Pores and scars, sometimes added for melasma |
*Microneedle RF: fine needles deliver heat into the skin below the surface.
The listed prices already include a discount. Multi-session packages and their conditions are listed separately on the promotions page, and package pricing can differ from single sessions added up. This is Seoul clinic pricing, subject to change.

How Does Laser Toning Work on Melasma, Layer by Layer?
Melasma pigment sits near the base of the top layer of skin (the epidermis), and some of it can lie deeper in the dermis, where melasma skin also tends to have more small blood vessels. Toning uses a wide, low-energy beam over the whole area. At that low setting, it breaks down the mature pigment packets inside pigment cells while leaving the cells themselves alive.

Because the energy is low on purpose, each session takes off only a little pigment. Think of it like fading a stain with gentle washes instead of one harsh scrub. The top layer of skin stays intact, which is why toning has little downtime, but it's also why results build slowly. Individual results vary with how deep the pigment sits and how your skin reacts.

How Many Toning Sessions for Melasma, and How Far Apart?
Most melasma toning studies used around 10 sessions, spaced 1-2 weeks apart. A review of 42 studies found that a few, mostly ones combining toning with other treatments, spaced sessions 4 weeks apart. A separate record of melasma treated with picosecond lasers* used intervals of 4-12 weeks.
*Picosecond laser: a laser that fires in extremely short bursts to shatter pigment into tiny pieces.
Here's why that matters for cost. If one quote is for 5 sessions and another is for 10, the per-session prices aren't comparable. Before setting a plan, your provider should look at how dark and how wide your melasma is and how sensitive your skin is, then decide the number of sessions and the spacing.
Stopping too early may leave you disappointed. In two studies where people had only 6 weekly sessions, melasma scores fell by 16.7% and 22%, and the review authors suggested the total number of sessions may have been too low. Both studies used a low-energy Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. How much you see depends on your skin, so if change is small at session 6, it's worth reviewing the remaining sessions and any add-on treatment before you quit.

Dark, Widespread Melasma: Is Toning Alone Enough?
For dark melasma that covers a wide area, the quote may include more than toning. During the exam, I look at how dark and how widespread the melasma is, whether dilated blood vessels come with it, and whether it responded poorly to laser before. Those findings are part of the exam, but they don't decide the combination on their own.
There's a Korean record on adding microneedle RF to toning. It looked back at 114 people with melasma who had 10 weekly sessions. A good or better rating from the doctors came in at 68% for the 56 people who had both, versus 54% for the 58 who had toning alone. Mottled white spots and rebound darkening were more common in the toning-only group.
Keep in mind that this was a look back at past records, not a randomized comparison. Toning has also been studied with bleaching creams and oral tranexamic acid. These combinations generally reduced side effects, but whether they clearly beat toning alone differed from study to study. Results differ from person to person.

Side Effects and Warning Signs After Laser Toning
Right after toning, mild redness and slight swelling are the most commonly reported reactions, and they're temporary. If they worsen or spread, contact your provider right away.
The bigger thing to watch is a change in color. As sessions add up, mottled white spots (patchy loss of color) can rarely appear. Among 147 people who had at least 5 toning sessions, 3 (2%) developed them, found at the 7th, 20th, and 21st sessions. In a picosecond laser record, 3 of 796 people (0.38%) developed light spots, and none showed meaningful return of color at 6 months.
If you notice any of these, contact the clinic before your next session:
White dots or blotchy light patches on or around the melasma
Melasma getting darker while you're still in the middle of treatment
Blisters, crusting, or skin that feels hot
White spots seem to be linked to a high total amount of laser energy over time. Treating too aggressively can also trigger inflammation that darkens the skin, especially in darker skin tones, so energy settings are chosen carefully.

Getting Laser Toning During a Trip to Korea
Unless you had sedation that day, there's no need to postpone your flight home because of toning.
Some treatments, like fillers, change your shape the same day. Most others work gradually, bringing your skin a little closer to how it used to look rather than changing it all at once. Toning is built on a series of sessions, so one visit during a trip won't replace the full plan. If your stay is short, it helps to agree early on how many sessions you can fit in and how they'll be spaced.
Once you're home, you can send photos to the clinic if a color change worries you. If white spots spread quickly or there's strong pain or swelling, see a local doctor first.
The Bottom Line: 3 Things to Check on a Toning Quote
When you get a toning quote, check that it spells out three things: how many sessions and how many weeks apart, whether it covers your whole face or just the melasma, and whether microneedle RF or oral medication is included. Only when those match can you put two per-session prices side by side.
Taking photos in the same light and at the same angle around session 4 or 5 makes it easier to decide whether to continue as planned.
Before you decide, ask: "For my melasma, how many sessions and how many weeks apart?" That one answer makes quotes much easier to compare. Beautystone is a clinic in Seoul's Hapjeong area. When you reach out, include a front-facing photo that shows your melasma, how many toning sessions you've had before, and any medications you take.
