PicoWay Tattoo Removal: The 3-Session Catch
PicoWay Tattoo Removal: The 3-Session Catch
PicoWay Tattoo Removal: The 3-Session Catch
PicoWay reviews often claim 3 sessions clear it—but black vs. color retouch splits results sharply.

PicoWay tattoo removal review,
The trap behind saying it’s over in 3 sessions
Let me start with the conclusion.
"Almost all of it was gone after 3 sessions" reviews
are mostly cases of simple black tattoos with a shallow depth.
If the tattoo has color or has been retouched,
realistically, in 3 sessions
it won’t even remove half of it.
Today, I’ll explain why step by step.

PicoWay reviews all look similar, right?
But the truth is
PicoWay fires lasers in trillionths of a second
to break pigment particles into very tiny fragments.
Unlike conventional lasers,
it uses shock waves rather than heat,
so it causes less damage to the surrounding skin and recovery is relatively fast.
But just because the device is good
doesn’t mean every tattoo disappears in just 3 sessions.

Why do some people need 3 sessions,
while others go up to 10?
"Three-session reviews are possible when black single-color + shallow depth
combine.
If your tattoo includes color or
has been retouched multiple times,
it’s more comfortable to plan for 6 to 10 sessions from the start.
"
— Dr. Wi Young-jin (Beautystone Clinic, Hongdae)
Last week, a 48-year-old client came back.
Two years ago, she had the lettering on her wrist
completely removed in just 3 sessions.
This time, she came to remove a colorful rose tattoo on her shoulder,
and asked whether 3 sessions would be enough again.
I told her honestly.
This time, she would likely need at least 8 sessions.
There are two reasons.
First is the ink color.
Black comes off well, but colors like red,
yellow, and light green
respond less well depending on the wavelength,
so the amount removed per session is smaller.
Second is the depth of the ink.
Tattoos that have been retouched multiple times
have ink layered on top of each other.
Even over the same area,
the total amount of ink can differ by as much as 3 to 5 times.

PicoWay recovery timeline,
what reviews often leave out
From review photos alone, it’s hard to understand the middle stages.
The actual healing process is as follows.
Right after treatment
The inked area swells and turns white (frosting).
Week 1
Scabs fall off naturally
(Never pick them off forcefully).
Weeks 2–4
The frustrating stage where you keep thinking, "Why isn’t it fading?"
Weeks 6–8
The point when the body’s lymphatic system
fully clears the broken-down ink.
Even if you look in the mirror every day, you may not notice the changes,
but if you take photos every 6 to 8 weeks
and compare them, the difference is clear.
Check your tattoo type
Tattoo type | Estimated sessions | Features |
Black single-color + shallow depth | 3~5 sessions | Lettering, mini tattoos, etc. |
Black + heavily retouched | 6~9 sessions | Large total ink volume |
Mixed colors (red·green) | 8~12 sessions | Wavelength-specific treatment needed |
Semi-permanent eyebrows·liner | 2~4 sessions | Careful attention to color changes needed |
That said, even if you complete the planned number of sessions,
"perfectly flawless skin" is not guaranteed.
Depending on the ink composition,
the goal should be to fade it by more than 90%,
so it is important to have realistic expectations.
The three questions we get most often in the consultation room
Q1. I’m worried about lingering pigmentation.
The most important thing is sun protection.
For 8 weeks after treatment, when going outside
be sure to apply SPF50+ sunscreen.
If you avoid the sun and don’t pick at the scabs,
side effects can be reduced to less than half.
Q2. How should I calculate the total cost?
If you only look at the price per session,
the burden grows if the number of sessions increases later.
At your first consultation, check the total package
including the estimated number of sessions.
Sticking with treatment without giving up halfway because of budget concerns
is the path to a full result.
Q3. Really, won’t it leave a scar?
PicoWay is safe, but
it is not completely free of side effects.
If you have a darker skin tone or have used color ink,
the response may be different.
That’s why we always do a test shot
first and check the response.
If you take just one thing away from today,
— before the "3 sessions" number in a review,
check the color and depth of your own tattoo first.
In the next article,
I’ll explain 'how to efficiently divide sessions by
wavelength when removing color tattoos.'
