Real cases: how GentleMax Pro Plus matches 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG to hair and skin.

GentleMax Pro Plus: Using Both Wavelengths Doesn't Mean the Results Are the Same
The results are not the same
Let me start with the conclusion.
What matters isn't that it includes two wavelengths,
it's how you choose between them that determines the result.
I'll explain why in this article.
So what exactly is different?
GentleMax Pro Plus combines 755nm Alexandrite and
1064nm Nd:YAG, allowing these two wavelengths
to be used in one device for laser hair removal and toning.
Unlike a single-wavelength device, GentleMax Pro Plus
lets you switch wavelengths even during treatment.
That's because hair type and skin tone differ by area.
Why do some people see less effect?
The key point of this article
Because the 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG
can both be used in one device,
the optimal wavelength is chosen according to hair type and skin tone.
That means the results can differ from those of a single-wavelength device.
That is because laser hair removal depends on the wavelength
and how deep it reaches.
755nm has a high melanin absorption rate,
so it responds well to shallow, coarse hair,
but 1064nm has a longer wavelength
and reaches deeper, about 4 to 5 mm.
For hair with deeper roots, the energy from 755nm
may not reach the bottom of the follicle
and can be absorbed before it gets there.
For people with darker skin tones or tanned skin,
1064nm Nd:YAG is
much safer and more effective.
Director Wi Young-jin's key takeaway
It's not important that "both wavelengths are available,"
but rather "what you use for my hair type and skin tone"
that creates the real result.
This is how I divide it in the clinic
Type | Recommended wavelength | Reason |
Light skin + coarse hair | 755nm Alexandrite | High melanin absorption, so it's efficient |
Dark skin / tanned skin | 1064nm Nd:YAG | Reduces the risk of epidermal burns |
Deep-rooted hair type | 1064nm Nd:YAG | Can penetrate to a depth of 4~5 mm |
With blood vessels / redness | 1064nm Nd:YAG | Also reacts to hemoglobin |
Mixed hair types in one area | Use a mixture of both wavelengths | Precisely treat each section separately |
Just because you can use both wavelengths
doesn't mean you should mix them carelessly.
The output and cooling settings need to differ by wavelength.
Having the device alone doesn't produce results;
you need experience with the settings.
The three questions I get most often in the clinic
Q1. My skin is fairly fair—can I keep getting only 755nm?
In most cases that's fine, but areas with more melanin, like the underarms or bikini line,
are safer with 1064nm.
Using each wavelength by area is the standard approach.
Q2. How many sessions does it usually take to finish?
For underarms and arms/legs, usually 6 to 8 sessions,
and for fine hair or the bikini area, we usually plan for 8 to 10 or more.
In the end, it's more about setting accuracy than the number of sessions.
Q3. Is there anything I must be careful about after treatment?
From the day of treatment to 2 or 3 days after,
avoid direct exposure to ultraviolet light.
There is a risk of pigmentation.
I hope today's article was helpful. This has been Wi Young-jin.
