Judge laser hair removal by results, not price. Why 5+ sessions, wavelength, and energy matter.

Q. I heard leg hair removal is enough with a 3-session package,
is that really true?
A. Legs are one of the body areas
with the longest hair growth cycle and a large surface area,
so to see real results,
you need at least 5 sessions.
3-session packages are often a structure that
makes the cost look lower.
Q. Then should I start with a 5-session package from the beginning?
A. Yes, in most cases a 5-session package
is much cheaper on a per-session basis,
and you're also more likely to complete it without needing extra purchases.
📌 Key point of this article
Because legs have a large surface area and a long hair growth cycle,
they require 5 or more treatments,
and the cost is usually lower if you choose a 5-session package.

The reason leg hair
is especially hard to remove,
isn't the machine's fault
This is something many people misunderstand,
when leg hair removal doesn't go well,
most people think, "Maybe the clinic's machine isn't very good."
that's what they assume.
But there's one important thing here.
Laser hair removal only works when the hair is in the 'growth phase.'
Hair is not always growing.
Growth phase → regression phase → resting phase,
the hair repeats these three stages,
and laser can deliver heat and destroy only the hair follicles that are in the growth phase.
For hairs in the regression or resting phase,
even if energy reaches them, it has almost no effect.
The issue is what percentage of hairs are in the growth phase at one time.
Arms and underarms have a relatively higher proportion of growth-phase hairs
and a shorter cycle.
So after 3 to 4 sessions,
many people see a noticeable reduction.
Legs are different.
To be honest,
the hair growth cycle on the legs is much longer than other areas,
and because the percentage entering the growth phase is low,
the number of follicles that respond in a single treatment is small.
And legs have a large surface area. Even the calves,
if you include both sides and the thighs,
take up a significant portion of the body's total surface area.
Since the hairs spread across a wide area
each have different cycles,
the number of hairs caught in the growth phase during one treatment
is much smaller than you might think.
What's tricky here is that,
even after 2 to 3 sessions, the hair definitely does decrease.
So it feels like it's working,
and it seems like you may not need any more sessions.
But in reality, to remove more than half of all follicles,
each cycle has to go through more than one round,
and realistically that means you need treatment spaced over at least 5 sessions.
👨⚕️ Director Wi Youngjin's key summary
The reason leg hair removal takes a long time is not a machine problem, but
the hair's biological cycle.
Because the legs have a large surface area and a long growth cycle,
the number of follicles that respond to one treatment is small.
You need at least 5 sessions to expect a meaningful hair-reduction effect, and starting with a 5-session package
is also more cost-effective per session.
So who should
approach it how?
It varies by case,
but this is how I usually break it down.
① People starting leg hair removal for the first time
Start with a 5-session package from the beginning.
If you finish a 3-session package and the effect is only half of what you wanted,
getting additional single sessions
often ends up costing more overall.
Setting the plan based on 5 sessions from the start
is ultimately more economical.
② People who had 3 to 4 sessions at another clinic
and feel like there was no effect
It's likely that the cycle hasn't fully gone through yet.
There have been quite a few cases where people said it didn't work even after 10 sessions elsewhere,
then were satisfied after 2 or 3 additional sessions with us,
and that's not because the machine was different,
but because the timing and spacing were right to properly cover the remaining growth-phase follicles.
③ People with thick, dark hair vs. fine, light hair
But this isn't always a good thing.
The thicker and darker the hair, the better it responds to laser.
So people with thick hair
often see results more quickly.
On the other hand, people with fine or light hair
have less melanin pigment to begin with,
so less laser energy is absorbed,
and as a result, even after 5 sessions,
complete removal may be difficult.
There's one thing I really need to mention,
laser hair removal is not 'permanent hair removal'
but 'permanent hair reduction.'
It's a procedure that reduces
hair density and thickness, not removes all hair.
I also make sure to explain this first during consultations.
Still, if the hair on your entire legs is reduced by 70 to 80%,
your shaving routine changes noticeably,
and convenience in daily life improves a lot.
Frequently asked questions
Q1. How far apart should
leg laser hair removal sessions be?
A. Usually, a 4- to 8-week interval is recommended.
Because the growth cycle of the legs is long,
if sessions are too close together,
the laser may be targeting follicles in a state similar to the previous treatment,
which can reduce efficiency.
Giving enough time between sessions so that more growth-phase follicles
build up to a certain extent first
is better in terms of effectiveness.
Q2. Can leg laser hair removal,
be done when the skin is tanned from the sun?
A. This is something you definitely need to check before coming in.
Laser targets melanin pigment,
and if the skin is tanned,
the melanin in the skin itself is also higher.
Then the laser is not only selectively destroying the hair follicles,
but the heat also spreads to the skin surface,
raising the risk of burns and pigmentation.
Avoid strong UV exposure for 2 to 4 weeks before treatment,
and if you've spent a lot of time outdoors,
it's best to mention that during the consultation.
