Tattoo removal "only ₩30K per session"? The real total cost may shock you. Find out now.
How to Calculate Tattoo Removal Costs:
You need to multiply by the 'total number of sessions,'
not just the price per cm, to get the real cost

The excitement of getting a tattoo lasts 10 minutes,
but the regret can last 10 years.
Especially around this time of year when sleeves get shorter,
that regret feels even more vivid.
'I heard removing it costs even more money,'
'What if it leaves a scar?' If worries like these
have made you put it off, today I'll share
the realistic costs and process of tattoo removal
without sugarcoating anything."
Rather than the single-session price, let's focus on
how much the total cost actually is.
Q. Is tattoo removal cost
determined only by size?
No. Color, ink depth, and number of sessions
are all reflected.
I'll explain each variable below.
Q. If I do just one session,
will the tattoo be removed?
No. Most cases require multiple sessions,
and that greatly changes the total cost.
I'll cover this in detail in the main text as well.
Q. Does the price vary
depending on tattoo color?
Yes. Color tattoos are more difficult
to treat than black tattoos,
and because the required equipment differs,
the cost structure itself is different.
Three variables that determine cost
![[가격 비교] 소형 검정 15만 원 vs 대형 컬러 300만 원, 내 문신은 어디쯤일까?](https://framerusercontent.com/images/FkJQylgbwV4Mpr5fQ1mE9LdY9c.png)
When you search for tattoo removal costs,
you often see charts like "price per 1cm,"
but the problem is,
size alone doesn't explain everything.
I usually categorize it like this.
Size
Calculated by area; the most basic variable
Color
Black/gray vs color (red/blue/yellow, etc.)
Estimated number of sessions
Varies by ink density, skin depth, and tattoo age
The total cost comes from multiplying these three factors.
Single-session price vs total cost,
why they are so different

This is a common misunderstanding,
but prices in ads like "30,000 KRW per session"
are based on very small single tattoos.
But there's one important point here.
Tattoo removal, with very few exceptions,
requires multiple sessions.
Because the ink is embedded in the dermis (the deeper skin layer),
one laser pass doesn't break it all down.
Your immune cells need time to clear the fragmented ink,
and it fades gradually through repetition.
In my experience, small black single-color tattoos usually take 5–8 sessions,
and if there are many colors or the area is large,
it's often more than 10 sessions.
So even if the per-session price is low,
when calculated as a total,
it can end up being more than expected.
To be honest,
I've seen quite a few people start because it seemed "cheap,"
then get exhausted or give up midway.
That's why it's important to plan
based on the total cost before starting.
Director Wie Young-jin's Practical Note:
In my experience, color tattoos require different
laser wavelengths depending on the pigment,
so one device can't always handle everything.
For example, bright yellow or light green shades
often respond weakly to standard Nd:YAG lasers,
so picosecond-class devices or
equipment that supports multiple wavelengths may be needed.
I always explain this in advance,
because clinics with only a single wavelength
may have limitations in removing color tattoos,
so it's good to check what equipment they use before consultation.
Approximate cost range by size

Many people want specific numbers,
so I'll summarize based on the cases I see.
(It varies by clinic,
and the ranges below are rough estimates based on Seoul.)
Tattoo size | Color | Per-session cost range | Estimated sessions | Total cost range (approx.) |
Small (under 3cm) | Black | 30,000–80,000 KRW | 5–8 sessions | About 150,000–600,000 KRW |
Medium (5–10cm) | Black | 80,000–200,000 KRW | 6–10 sessions | About 500,000–2,000,000 KRW |
Medium (5–10cm) | Color | 150,000–300,000 KRW | 8–12 sessions | About 1,200,000–3,600,000 KRW |
Large (15cm or more) | Mixed | 300,000 KRW+ | 10+ sessions | Can exceed 3,000,000 KRW |
This part is a bit unfortunate, though—
some clinics sell package deals,
while others charge per session,
so direct comparison is difficult.
Still, it's best to evaluate
by looking at the total cost range first.
Key summary:
Tattoo removal cost should not be judged by the per-session price,
but by the total amount from size × color × number of sessions.
What matters more than cost
— ultimately, quality of outcome
But that doesn't mean
the cheapest place is the best.
The most common issue in tattoo removal is
using energy that's too low, or
setting intervals too short,
which only increases the number of sessions.
On the other hand, if energy is too strong,
there is a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or scarring.
In short...
the reality is that even for the same tattoo, results vary depending on the practitioner's experience with energy settings.

or can come from the Sinchon or Ewha area,

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1. How many tattoo removal sessions are needed
to remove it completely?
A. In my experience, small black tattoos take 5–8 sessions,
and if colors are mixed or the area is large,
more than 10 sessions are often needed.
Q2. After tattoo removal,
can scars remain?
A. If energy is set too high
or treatments are repeated without proper intervals, there is a risk of scarring or pigmentation.
That's also why the practitioner's setting experience matters.
Q3. Can semi-permanent eyebrows or eyeliner
also be removed with laser?
A. Yes, they can be removed. However, around the eyes,
protective devices are required,
and responses may vary depending on pigment type.
Before starting, I recommend checking
the total cost range and estimated number of sessions in advance.
