Xeomin prices hinge on units per area and how often you retreat. Here's why units can't be compared across brands, plus a quote checklist.

One of the most common questions we hear is some version of this: “Two clinics both quoted me 50 units of Xeomin, so why is one so much more expensive?” It's a fair question, and the answer usually has less to do with who's overcharging and more to do with what each quote actually covers.
A single price on a piece of paper rarely tells you how many areas are being treated, how many units go into each one, or how soon you'd be coming back. Two quotes that look identical can describe two very different treatments.
In this article, we'll cover how Xeomin dosing works, why its units can't be swapped one-for-one with other botulinum toxins, how dose affects how long results last, and a simple checklist that lets you compare quotes on equal terms.
What Actually Sets the Price of Xeomin?
The short answer: the number of units placed in each area. Product is the biggest line item in any neurotoxin treatment, and Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) measures that product in units. The U.S. FDA prescribing information for Xeomin breaks upper facial lines into three areas and lists a recommended dose for each:
Frown lines (glabellar lines): 4 units at each of 5 injection points, for 20 units total.
Forehead lines: 4 units at each of 5 points in the frontalis muscle*, for 20 units total.
Crow’s feet: 4 units at each of 3 points per side, for 24 units across both sides.
When all three areas are treated in the same session, the maximum recommended dose is 64 units.
*Frontalis: the muscle that lifts your eyebrows and creates horizontal forehead lines. Relaxing it too much can leave the brows feeling heavy or lower than usual.
Here's a detail that changes quotes more than people expect. The same labeling says forehead lines should be treated together with the frown lines to reduce the risk of brow drooping. So a “forehead” quote that also includes the area between the brows can involve close to twice the units of one that doesn't. At Beautystone in Seoul's Hapjeong area, when someone asks about their forehead, our doctors look at how strongly the frown muscles pull at the same time and keep the forehead dose light enough to protect the natural position of the brows.

Why You Can't Compare Xeomin and Botox by Price per Unit
Because the units aren't the same thing. It's tempting to set 50 units of Xeomin next to 50 units of a Korean-made toxin and divide the price by 50. But the Xeomin prescribing information states plainly that its units of biological activity are specific to its own manufacturing and testing method and can't be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product. The same number on two quotes doesn't mean the same amount of effect.
Part of the reason Xeomin is priced differently comes down to how it's made. According to its labeling, Xeomin is purified to remove the complexing proteins* that naturally travel with the toxin, leaving only the core neurotoxin. Think of it as unwrapping a gift and keeping just what's inside.
*Complexing proteins: proteins, such as hemagglutinins, that form alongside botulinum toxin. They aren't needed for the effect, and different products retain them to different degrees.
A 2019 review in the journal Toxins notes that formulations without these accessory proteins may have lower overall immunogenicity, meaning a lower tendency to trigger antibodies. The same review is careful to add that antibody test results don't consistently line up with how well treatment works. So it's not evidence that Xeomin works “better.” It's more useful as one factor when you plan on repeat treatments over the years.

Do More Units Make Xeomin Last Longer?
They can, but not in proportion to the cost. In a phase 2 trial that split 241 people with frown lines into four groups, a single treatment of 20, 50, 75 or 100 units of Xeomin produced a median duration of effect of 175, 185, 210 and 215 days, respectively.
In other words, five times the product bought roughly 40 extra days. It's also worth knowing the study's limits: it was funded by the manufacturer, it only looked at the frown lines, and doses above the approved amount are off-label and up to a physician's individual judgment.
That trade-off shows up directly in quotes:
Higher dose, fewer visits: a bigger price per session, but you may go longer between treatments.
Lower dose, more visits: a smaller price per session, but the yearly total can end up close to the same.
Which approach fits you depends on how deep your lines are and how expressive your face is. Individual results vary, which is why the plan should come from an exam rather than a menu.

Five Things Every Xeomin Quote Should Spell Out
If any of these boxes is blank, there's no way to tell where a price difference came from. Try filling in the same five rows for every quote you receive:
What to check | Why it changes the price | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
Treatment areas | Frown lines alone vs. adding forehead and crow’s feet can double or triple the units | Which areas does this price include? |
Units per area | The units per area are the real size of the treatment | How many units go into each area? |
Product name | Units can’t be converted between brands, so the product must be named | Is this quote for Xeomin specifically? |
Retreatment interval | Price per session times sessions per year is your real cost | When would my next treatment likely be? |
What’s included | Follow-up checks and touch-up policies differ between clinics | What happens if the effect feels too weak? |
At Beautystone, we quote Xeomin from our clinic price list once the areas and units are set during your consultation. If you remember the areas and units from your last treatment, bring those numbers along. It makes the comparison much faster.

Xeomin Side Effects and Safety
Xeomin is FDA-approved for frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet, and like any injectable, it comes with side effects you should know about. In a repeat-treatment study of 720 people described in the prescribing information, the most common reactions were bruising or a small blood collection at the injection site (8%) and headache (3%). Eyebrow drooping occurred in 1%, and these reactions tended to become less frequent with later treatment cycles.
Mild bruising usually fades on its own within days. If your eyelids feel heavy, or if you have any trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing, contact the clinic that treated you or seek medical care right away.
The Toxins review also lists factors linked to antibody formation: short intervals between treatments, booster injections and high doses per cycle. So if the effect wears off sooner than you'd like and you're tempted to shorten the gap, talk it through with your provider. It affects both your yearly cost and this long-term consideration.
Timing matters when judging results, too. For expression lines such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet, it's best to assess at 3 to 4 weeks. When the goal is slimming a muscle, like the jaw, give it 6 to 8 weeks. Adding more before then stacks doses on top of each other and makes it hard to tell how much the first round did.
Let your provider know beforehand if you've reacted to a botulinum toxin product in the past, have an infection at the planned injection site, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Bottom Line
Xeomin quotes differ mainly because of the units per area, how many areas are bundled together and how often you’d be retreated.
Xeomin units can’t be converted to other toxins’ units, so price per unit isn’t a fair comparison.
Higher doses tend to last somewhat longer, but the gain is modest compared with the extra product.
Comparing yearly cost, with areas, units and intervals filled in, gives you the clearest picture.
Like any procedure, it comes with trade-offs, including bruising and, occasionally, brow drooping. Ultimately, the choice depends on your skin, your goals and your budget.
If you're considering Xeomin and have two quotes that don't add up, a consultation is the best way to find out what fits you. Beautystone is a dermatology clinic in Seoul's Hapjeong area. When you reach out, mention which lines bother you most, plus the product name and date of your last toxin treatment if you've had one.
