Jaw Botox 60U: More Isn't Always Better

Why 60U jaw Botox isn't just 'high dose'—director explains ideal dosing by gender and body type.

Jaw Botox 60U: Don't believe the claim that more is always better

What is jaw Botox?

Jaw Botox is a procedure that injects Botox into the masseter muscle at the end of the jawbone to make the muscle smaller.

Q. I'm a woman—should I get 60U of jaw Botox, or is 40U enough?

A. The average dose for women is 40U, but if your muscles are large or you are tall, 60U or more can actually save time and deliver more reliable results.

Q. Does a larger dose also mean more side effects?

A. If the dose matches your muscle volume, it is actually more stable. Too little can be more risky.

"Jaw Botox 60U is the standard male dose.

For women, 40U is usually fine, but if your muscles are large and you are tall, a larger dose can save time and be more effective."

There is a reason 60U is the 'standard male dose'

A lot of people think about jaw Botox this way.

"40U for women, 60U for men."

But the thing is,

actual muscle size matters much more

than gender.

The masseter muscle (the muscle that moves the jaw, in simple terms the one

that bulges on the cheek when you chew)

varies greatly in size from person to person.

Even among women, the difference in muscle volume between those with well-developed muscles and

those without them

can be more than double.

Because Botox acts on muscles,

the more muscle mass you have, the more dose

you need for it to work.

If you put a small dose into a strong muscle,

the effect will be short-lived, only one side may respond, or

the result will be unsatisfying.

What made me really feel this was,

there were quite a few women who came in saying

they had no effect even after getting 40U three times,

and many of them were

tall women with a broad frame.

After adjusting them to 60U,

many were satisfied within two treatments.

👨‍⚕️ Director Wi Youngjin's key takeaway:

Jaw Botox 60U is the standard dose for men,

and 40U is the average for women,

but if your muscles are large or you are tall,

starting at 60U or more

saves time and is more effective.

I've seen quite a few cases where people tried to save dose,

didn't get the effect they wanted,

and only ended up coming back more often.

So am I 40U or 60U?

Honestly,

it is hard to say exactly until we feel the muscles in the clinic.

Still, as a simple guideline:

Type

Recommended dose

Features

Women / small muscles / under 160 cm

40U

Typical standard dose for women

Women / large muscles or 165 cm+

60U

Includes those who didn't respond to 40U

Men / average build

60U

Standard starting dose for men

Men / very developed masseters

80U or more

Depends on the case

This is something many people misunderstand,

a larger dose is not automatically dangerous.

A dose that matches the muscle volume is the 'proper dose,'

and if you use less than that standard,

the effect will be reduced.

But there is one important thing here.

If too much Botox is injected into the masseter,

your chewing strength can weaken.

Some people say it feels uncomfortable when eating tough foods.

Most of the time it is temporary and recovers in 4 to 6 months, but

you should know this in advance before making a decision.

Still, when it comes to V-line effects

or relief of teeth grinding and headaches,

the satisfaction level is quite high when the proper dose is set correctly.

When does it start working, and how long does it last?

It varies by case,

but this is usually how I explain it.

About 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure,

as the muscle gradually relaxes,

changes in the jawline start to become visible.

The full effect should be checked after 1 month.

The duration is usually about 4 to 6 months.

For first-time patients, the muscles are strong,

so the effect often fades around 4 months, and

after 2 to 3 repeated treatments,

as the muscles become thinner, there are quite a few people

who maintain the result for more than 6 months.

One important thing I have to mention is that

Botox is not a completely permanent procedure.

You need to approach it as maintenance

in order to keep the desired result over the long term.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. It's my first time—should I start with 40U for jaw Botox?

A. Not necessarily.

Even if it's your first time, if your muscles are large

or your bone structure is more robust,

starting with 40U may leave you feeling no effect,

and you might think, "Maybe Botox just doesn't work on me?"

Checking the muscles during consultation is

the most accurate way.

Q2. Won't jaw Botox make the face sag?

A. This is a common concern,

but it only reduces the masseter,

so it is not directly related to skin sagging.

However, as the jawline volume decreases,

some people sometimes feel that the cheek area looks more saggy,

but this varies from person to person.

If you mention it during your consultation in advance,

we can check it together.

Q3. How much does 60U of jaw Botox cost?

A. It varies by clinic, but

for 60U, it is usually in the range of about 50,000 to 100,000 won.

Because the price structure changes depending on the dose, brand, and injector experience,

simply comparing prices

is not a good method.
