Q. Facial peach fuzz laser hair removal isn’t it just a procedure to remove hair?

A. When the dark fine hairs disappear, the skin actually looks brighter.

That’s because the way light reflects changes, and

that’s also why makeup applies better.

Q. Doesn’t using a laser on the face damage the skin?

A. It’s all about getting the wavelength and energy settings right.

However, the face has different skin thicknesses and hair thicknesses by area,

so you can’t treat the whole face with just one setting.

📌 Director Wi Young-jin’s key insights

When you remove facial peach fuzz with a laser,

the dark hairs disappear, the face looks brighter, makeup goes on much better, and

as a result, you can even get

a bonus toning effect that makes the skin tone look brighter.

"레이저 토닝이랑 뭐가 달라요?" 얼굴 잔털 제모로 맑은 피부톤 얻는 원리

When the peach fuzz disappears

why does the skin look brighter?

To be honest,

at first I also thought, "It’s just removing hair, so why would the skin tone get better?"

I thought that too.

But as I built up more cases, the reason became clear.

The fine hairs on the face,

especially the thin downy hairs, are often darker than you’d think.

When these hairs are spread across the face,

as light reflects off the skin surface,

their dark color makes the overall complexion look dull.

To put it simply,

it’s like taking a white sheet of paper and

dotting it with pencil marks hundreds of times.

Each one may look small,

but overall, the sheet of paper looks gray.

Here’s one important point.

Laser hair removal reacts to melanin.

Melanin is the pigment that makes hair black,

and the laser selectively destroys this pigment to remove the hair.

This process is called selective photothermolysis,

which simply means "choosing only the dark parts and burning them with heat."

The tricky part is that if it reacts to melanin, it also means

it can react to the skin’s own pigment as well.

That’s why wavelength and energy settings are important.

Once the peach fuzz is gone, the skin surface becomes more even.

Light starts reflecting evenly without diffuse scattering, and

as a result, even though the actual skin tone stays the same,

it creates the visual effect of looking brighter.

On top of that, cosmetics adhere directly to the skin,

so foundation and cushion foundation color payoff changes noticeably.

What many people misunderstand here is,

"So isn’t this the same as laser toning?"

Toning breaks down the pigment within the skin itself,

while peach fuzz removal gets rid of the visual shadow created by surface hairs.

They target different layers.

👨‍⚕️ Director Wi Young-jin’s key summary

When facial peach fuzz is removed,

the skin surface becomes more even and light reflection changes.

The fact that makeup goes on better is not just a feeling,

but a real change caused by cosmetics

making direct contact with the skin after the hairs are gone.

For those who want both laser hair removal and a toning effect,

this is why peach fuzz removal is the first step and

the most efficient one.

솜털 제모 vs 거뭇한 잔털 제모, 피부 타입별로 레이저 기계를 바꿔야 하는 이유

Facial peach fuzz: who should

take what approach?

It depends on the case,

but this is usually how I look at it.

It can be broadly divided into three types.

① When there is a lot of downy hair

For people with lots of fine, light downy hair, there is less melanin, so

compared with a standard diode laser,

a deeper-penetrating wavelength such as Nd:YAG or Alexandrite

can be more advantageous at times.

But that’s not always the right answer,

and you need to look at skin type and hair color together.

② When there is dark fine hair + a darker skin tone

This combination requires the most cautious approach.

That’s because the laser can react not only to the hair’s melanin

but also to the epidermal melanin in the skin.

Lowering the energy and spreading the treatment over multiple sessions

is the way to get results without pigmentation.

People who went somewhere else and ended up with melasma instead,

in most cases had their energy pushed too high in this situation.

③ When peach fuzz + enlarged pores are present together

If the peach fuzz is structurally blocking the pores,

it’s effective to remove the hair while also combining it with a pore-care laser

at the same time.

For these patients, I tend to recommend

laser hair removal + a skin booster or Rejuran combination rather than hair removal alone.

The order is hair removal first.

The surface needs to be cleaned up before the next treatment absorbs better.

One thing I must mention is that

facial peach fuzz removal is not a one-time treatment.

Because of the hair growth cycle, you usually need about 4 to 6 sessions

at 4- to 6-week intervals to see real results.

Still, during seasons with a lot of summer sun exposure,

post-treatment care is important, so

people who started in autumn or winter were much more satisfied.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. Can I put on makeup right after facial peach fuzz removal?

A. We do not recommend regular makeup on the same day.

Right after the procedure, the skin surface is sensitive, so

it’s best to wait at least 12 hours, and ideally 24 hours, before

starting makeup again.

You should apply sunscreen carefully starting that same day.

The skin is especially sensitive to UV rays right after laser treatment.

If you miss that timing, pigmentation can actually develop.

Q2. Is the whole face treated,

or can it be divided by area?

A. It can be divided by area.

You can choose only the areas you want, such as the upper lip, cheeks, forehead, and sideburn area.

You can select only the areas you want.

Treating the whole face at once takes a bit longer, but

from an efficiency standpoint, doing the whole face at once is better.

Sometimes the laser settings need to be different for each area, so

it’s helpful to be specific at the initial consultation about

which areas are bothering you.

Q3. Can men also get facial peach fuzz removal?

A. Yes, they can.

In particular, many men come in because of peach fuzz around

the sideburns or below the cheekbones,

more than you might expect.

Some also come in wanting to tidy up their beard line,

but because beard hair has different thickness and density,

it should not be approached with exactly the same settings as peach fuzz.

We make sure to clearly distinguish this during the consultation.
