Q. Thread lifting is just a procedure that inserts threads,
so why is the price so different?
A. The price of thread lifting varies by more than three times
depending on the type of thread, such as Mint thread or Silhouette Soft, and the number inserted.
The price can differ by more than double.
Q. Is more expensive always better?
A. Not necessarily.
The first thing is to choose the thread
that matches your skin condition and degree of sagging.
📌 Key point of this article
Thread lifting varies from several hundred thousand won to over one million won
depending on the type of thread, such as Mint thread or Silhouette Soft,
and how many threads are used.
The difference can be huge.

The real reason for the price difference —
it all comes down to the thread’s
"type" and "quantity"
If you search for thread lifting prices,
you’ll see some priced at 300,000 won and others at 1.5 million won.
For first-time visitors, it’s only natural to think,
"Why on earth?"
Is it because the equipment is different, the doctor’s skill is different,
or is it just marketing?
To be honest,
there are just two key factors behind the price difference.
① What type of thread is used
② How many strands are inserted
The threads used for thread lifting are broadly
divided into Mint thread (MINT), Silhouette Soft,
and regular PDO threads.
PDO thread is the most basic
material among dissolvable threads.
On the other hand, Mint thread has tiny cogs (hooks)
densely attached in both directions,
so its pulling force on the skin and
how long it lasts are clearly different.
Silhouette Soft has cone-shaped
anchors attached to the thread,
so it gives a stronger lifting sensation.
What makes this tricky is that
even threads from the same brand can produce completely different results
depending on how many are used.
For example, a package with 4 Mint threads and
a package with 10 threads
may share the same name, but the strength of the effect differs,
and naturally the material cost itself is different,
so the price has to vary.
But there’s one important thing here.
Many people misunderstand this:
just because a thread is expensive,
it doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right thread for you.
If someone with only mild sagging
gets several strong Silhouette Soft threads,
their facial expressions can look unnatural,
or the pulling sensation can be too strong.
Conversely, if someone with severe sagging
only gets a few weak PDO threads,
the effect may be minimal,
and they may feel like they just wasted money.
👨⚕️ Dr. Wi Youngjin’s key summary
The price of thread lifting is determined by
the type of thread and the number inserted.
Rather than comparing the numbers alone,
it’s much more important to first figure out
which thread best matches your degree of sagging
and the lifting strength you want.
Even at the same price, if the composition is different,
the results can be completely different.

Then which thread is
right for me —
here’s how it looks by type
It varies by case,
but this is usually how I approach it.
For mild sagging
(early to mid-30s, beginning of cheek sagging)
In this case, there’s no need to
use many expensive threads.
PDO-based threads or a small amount of Mint thread
are often enough.
Costs are often around 500,000 to 800,000 won
in many cases.
For moderate sagging
(late 30s to 40s, nasolabial folds and cheek boundary become clear)
At this stage, based on Mint thread,
you can increase the number a bit,
or consider Silhouette Soft.
Usually, a composition around 800,000 to 1.4 million won
is commonly used in real practice.
For pronounced sagging
(mid-40s and older, jawline collapse)
In this case, if you don’t insert
enough threads, the effect is not very good.
If you go with Silhouette Soft or a high-volume
Mint thread setup,
it often exceeds 1.5 million won.
But that doesn’t mean it’s always better.
The more threads you insert, the stronger the swelling
and pulling sensation right after the procedure becomes,
and recovery takes a bit longer.
Still, for middle-aged and older patients
whose sagging has progressed significantly,
it remains one of the most realistic options.
Sometimes patients come in saying they’ve had thread lifting several times elsewhere
but couldn’t really tell if it worked.
From what I hear, most of the time
it was because there weren’t enough threads,
or the thread type didn’t match
the degree of sagging they had.
After adjusting the composition again,
many people were satisfied after 2 to 3 sessions.

Frequently asked questions
Q1. How long do the effects of thread lifting last?
A. It depends on the type of thread,
but PDO threads usually last 6 months to 1 year,
and Mint thread or Silhouette Soft
are often considered to last about 1 to 2 years.
However, this includes the idea that even after the thread dissolves,
collagen continues to form
and the effect is maintained to some extent.
It’s based on that assumption.
Because it varies depending on individual skin condition and lifestyle,
it’s hard to say exactly how many years
it will last.
Q2. Can I go back to daily life right after thread lifting?
A. Most people can go home the same day.
However, right after the procedure, the insertion area
may still feel tight or heavy.
If you have an important appointment or photo session,
we recommend allowing at least 1 to 2 weeks
of buffer time before the procedure.
The more threads used,
the longer recovery tends to take.
Q3. Between thread lifting and Ulthera (HIFU),
which should I choose?
A. These work on different layers of sagging.
Ulthera uses heat energy on the SMAS layer
to contract the tissue,
while thread lifting physically inserts threads
to pull the tissue directly.
If sagging is still in the early stage,
Ulthera alone may be enough in some cases,
and if sagging has progressed, combining thread lifting or
using it as the main treatment is often more effective.
Many people also plan both together.
What’s right for you
is best determined after an in-person evaluation.
That’s all from Wi Youngjin.
