Shrink HIFU: How Often? Every 4 Weeks Recommeded?
Director reveals ideal Ultraformer interval—it's not just once a year. See real case differences.
How often should you get Shurink?
Recommended interval,
to be honest
These days, the weather keeps fluctuating,
and as we move through the seasonal transition, many people say their skin elasticity
has noticeably dropped.
Shurink is now so well known
and such a mainstream procedure that
some people casually think, "Isn't it just something you get
once a year on a regular basis?"
There are quite a few people who think that way.
But in fact, with lifting,
when you get it (the timing)
accounts for half of the procedure's result.
If you get it too early, it can strain the skin,
and if you wait too long, the lifted effect you worked hard to achieve
can end up fading away.
Today, let's go over the recommended Shurink interval in full.

Check this first before reading
Q. Do you have to get Shurink
once a year, no matter what?
A. No. Depending on skin condition and age,
some people are better off getting it once every 6 months,
while for others once every 18 months is appropriate.
Q. When do you feel the Shurink effect
the most?
A. It is felt most clearly
between 1 and 3 months after the procedure,
as collagen builds up.
Q. If you get it too often, does it damage the skin?
A. Yes. If it is repeated without enough recovery time,
it can put stress on the tissue.
I’ll cover each case in detail in the main text.

First, you need to understand
how long Shurink
acts on the skin
Shurink uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU)
to deliver thermal stimulation
to the deep layers of the skin (the SMAS layer).
This stimulation induces collagen regeneration,
and that process definitely does not finish all at once.
Right after the procedure, the stimulated tissue actually
needs time to recover on its own,
and it usually takes 1 to 3 months
for new collagen to form and
settle in place.
In other words, if you get it again before the effect
reaches its peak,
you won't fully benefit from the previous treatment,
and unnecessary heat damage
will just keep accumulating in the skin.
This is a point many people misunderstand,
but Shurink is not a procedure where
"the more often, the better."
Only after the skin has responded sufficiently,
and the collagen has become somewhat firm
and settled in place, should you stimulate it again;
that's how the effects build up step by step.

Recommended Shurink intervals
by case
Skin condition / age group | Recommended interval | Reason |
Early 30s, preventive purpose | 12~18 months | Collagen retention is still relatively good, so the effect lasts longer |
Late 30s to 40s, early sagging | 9~12 months | Sagging is progressing, so the duration of the effect shortens |
Mid-to-late 40s and older, noticeable sagging | 6~9 months | Collagen regeneration is slower, so frequent replenishment is needed |
Thin and sensitive skin | 12 months or more | More time is needed to recover from stimulation |
The table above is only an average guideline,
and in practice, it should be decided after
examining the skin directly.
Depending on skin thickness, the degree of sagging,
and previous treatment history,
the recommended interval can be
completely different even for the same age.
Director Wi Youngjin's Practical Notes
From my experience, sometimes people come in saying, "I get it every 3 months"
.
To be honest,
that is often a bit excessive.
Especially for people with thin skin, I’ve even seen cases where
the accumulated stimulation makes the skin look dull, or
the swelling doesn't go down easily.
On the other hand, some people leave too long a gap, thinking, "I got it once,
so I should be fine for a few years,"
but
if the skin sags back down a lot in the meantime,
the next procedure will require much stronger energy
to compensate.
I always make sure to mention this in advance as well.
Adjusting the interval to suit the skin condition
is the most important thing.
When the Shurink you paid for
wears off
too quickly?
But this isn't always a good thing,
and even with the exact same procedure
the duration of the effect varies from person to person.
Looking at cases where the effect fades quickly,
there are factors such as poor sunscreen use,
sleep deprivation or severe stress,
major weight changes (such as rapid weight loss),
and smoking.
If these factors continue,
even if the procedure itself went well,
the newly formed collagen will collapse quickly.
Before getting Shurink,
it's better to sort out your lifestyle habits first,
and if any of the above factors apply to you, you may need to
schedule the interval a little sooner.
Key summary
The Shurink interval should be personalized between 6 and 18 months
depending on skin condition, age,
and lifestyle habits.
So,
how should you decide
the timing for the next treatment?
This is usually what I tell patients during consultations.
"As long as your face still feels firm and lifted,
you don't need to come in unnecessarily.
The moment you start to feel sagging again
is exactly the right time for retreatment."
The most honest and accurate signal is
what you feel yourself in the mirror every day.
That said, if you come in only after the sagging has progressed too much,
one procedure may not be enough to cover it,
and sometimes you may need to combine it with another treatment.
Before that happens, come in once,
get your skin checked,
and set the right interval for yourself in advance;
it will be much more efficient in terms of long-term cost and
time.
Frequently asked questions
Q1. After your first Shurink treatment,
is the next one always a year later?
A. It does not have to be exactly one year.
The decision is made by looking at your skin's response after the first treatment,
and if you feel the sagging is coming back quickly,
you can move it up to around 9 months.
However, I do not recommend
short intervals under 6 months.
Q2. Does increasing the energy (number of shots) each time
make the effect better?
A. Not necessarily.
If your skin condition has improved compared to the first time,
it is better to maintain the same energy,
and in fact excessive energy can put stress on vulnerable areas
or cause facial hollowness.
Rather than simply increasing the number of shots,
a setting that matches your current skin condition
is far more important.
Q3. If you alternate Shurink with another lifting treatment,
does the interval change?
A. Yes, it does.
For example, people who combine it with thread lifting or
Thermage
generally leave a slightly longer gap than with Shurink alone.
It is best to consult with the doctor while looking at the overall schedule
so that each procedure's recovery period and effect window
do not overlap.
