Q. You say a Seoul National University specialist performs the procedure directly. Is that really the case?
A. I handle everything directly, from consultation to procedure to post-treatment record keeping. There is no delegated care.
Q. Aren’t dermatology clinics all pretty similar?
A. Even with the same device, the results differ depending on who uses it and what records they base their treatment on.
📌 Key points of this article
A Seoul National University specialist provides direct treatment and keeps post-procedure records, enabling continuous care

What is a Seoul National University specialist dermatology clinic?
A dermatologist from Seoul National University College of Medicine is
a medical professional who has completed
at least 8 years of medical training,
including dermatology residency.
Unlike general clinics or dermatology clinics run by non-specialists,
the key difference is that specialists have received
systematic training in both skin diseases and cosmetic procedures.
If there are no records, there is no management
To be honest,
many dermatology clinics use the term "specialist treatment," but
in reality, the cases where the director personally performs the procedure are
fewer than you might think.
The director does the consultation,
a different staff member performs the procedure, and
at the next visit, the director may not know the previous records well.
If you’ve experienced this before, it probably doesn’t feel unfamiliar.

But there’s one important thing here.
Skin procedures are not one-time events.
For example, when treating pigmentation lesions with a laser,
if there’s no record of what wavelength, what energy, and at what depth were used in the first session,
then
the second session is effectively no different from starting all over again.
The skin responds cumulatively.
You need to know how much thermal damage occurred in the previous treatment,
and how the pigment responded
in order to plan the next treatment.
After every procedure, I personally keep records
of photos, parameters (device settings), clinical responses, and next steps.
It’s a tedious task,
but I believe that’s what makes it possible to call it "management."
When people who didn’t feel results after receiving treatment several times elsewhere
tell us they noticed changes after 2 to 3 sessions here,
it was often because
of a record-based, step-by-step approach.

This part can be a bit subtle,
but it’s exactly why using the same laser device at two different hospitals
does not produce the same results.
The device is only a tool, and
what determines the actual outcome is the context in which that tool is used and
the records behind it.

👨⚕️ Director Wi Young-jin’s key takeaway:
The criteria for choosing a dermatology clinic are not the device brand or the price.
Please check whether a specialist personally examines you, builds treatment records,
and can connect them to the next treatment.
That is true "management."
Who is this approach best suited for?
It depends on the case, but this is generally how I categorize it.
This is something many people misunderstand,
but specialist treatment does not necessarily mean "expensive, grand procedures."
If anything, it is closer to reducing unnecessary procedures.
Type | Characteristics | Why direct treatment by a specialist is especially important |
|---|---|---|
People who didn’t feel results at multiple dermatology clinics | Repeated procedures without previous records | A record-based approach can identify the cause and guide treatment |
Skin that is sensitive to pigmentation, redness, etc. | Overtreatment can actually worsen it | Adjusting settings and taking a step-by-step approach are essential |
People who want long-term skin management | Need cumulative care, not a one-time event | Strategic care is possible by linking records from each visit |
People who want to avoid unnecessary procedures | Want only what they need, without package recommendations | A specialist can provide care without overtreatment |
But this isn’t unconditionally good either.
A direct-specialist treatment structure
inevitably means a tighter schedule.
It may not be suitable for those who want quick reservations or same-day procedures.
It may not be the right fit.
However, once the direction is properly set,
the total number of treatments often decreases.

Frequently asked questions
Q1. Since the clinic is in Hongdae, can people come from Ilsan too?
A. Yes, we do have quite a few patients who come from Ilsan.
We’re right near Hongik University Station by subway,
so people who are 30 to 40 minutes away also visit regularly.
If you message us on KakaoTalk before your first consultation,
we can give you a brief sense of the direction before you come in.
Q2. How much do procedures cost, and how many sessions are needed?
A. It depends on the skin condition and the goal,
so it’s hard to give a standard answer.
That said, I don’t do a "let’s start with a package" approach.
After one consultation, we assess the condition and set a direction,
then adjust the plan while monitoring the response.
We provide specific guidance after the initial consultation.
Q3. What should I do if I have a side effect after a procedure?
A. There’s one thing I must say clearly:
any procedure can come with temporary reactions.
Redness, dryness, and temporary darkening of pigmentation, for example,
are often part of the treatment process.
But if these are recorded in advance
and the director personally checks them at the next visit,
we can accurately distinguish between "a side effect" and "a normal reaction."
That’s why record management is not just a service,
but also part of safety management.
KakaoTalk consultations before visiting are also available. This has been Wi Young-jin.
